Welcome to the Junior Climber Development Program (JCDP) Page. This page will explain all about the JCDP and also provide information to those that are members of the JCDP - i.e. session dates, extra competition training dates, competition results, etc.
About the J C D P
Cliffhanger’s Junior Climber Development Program has been formed as a structured pathway for children to develop their climbing skills whilst improving their cooperative learning skills, fitness and ability – all in a social and fun environment.
The keys to the JCDP are:
As with all sports, the reasons why children participate vary as do the results. Our program is designed for those that want to improve skills for recreation purposes as well as those that want to compete in sport climbing at a local, state, national or regional level. Cliffhanger sponsors several program members each year to participate in these events.
The speed of advancement will vary depending on each child’s ability/aptitude, instinct and work ethic. We will set goals on an individual basis, for each program and endeavour to ensure each child reaches their potential.
The other important factor about our program, is that we teach the kids that 'climbing' is not the be-all-and-end-all. We encourage the kids to partake in other activities and to have a balanced outlook.

Expectations
JCDP members are required to sign up for a Term and pay the membership fee (see below). Members are then expected to attend their scheduled class each week night – we allow for TWO absences per program/term. More than two absences will require the member to re-do the program next term at the same level or until satisfactory completion. The Saturday training session is NOT compulsory, but recommended to allow the children to implement what was learned during the previous week.
There will also be “non-climbing” social activities planned during each term, these do NOT form part of the scheduled days, these are optional, yet encouraged so that the children are encouraged to interact socially yet not necessarily whilst climbing. These activities may include gear days, trips to the movies, etc.
