VET Courses:

The following information may be useful for teachers running Outdoor Education Programs under the VET System and providing training to the SRO National Training Packages.

These SRO assessment sheets are used by Cliffhanger Staff to assess students against the SRO's in a practical assessment. Written Assessment is also possible using a different Test Sheet.

DEET Safety Guidelines for Education Outdoors (2009)

In October 2009, the Department of Education (Vic) released new Risk Management Policies for secondary schools, Safety Guidelines for Education Outdoors.

This 2009 update now includes Artificial Climbing and Abseiling, which was something of a surprise to us, as we (nor any other commercial climbing gym) were consulted!

Many of the suggestions in the guidelines are neither practical nor operable in the commercial climbing gym, without a marked increase in our charges to you, the schools. We strongly suggest you check the DEET site for these new regulations, as your instructor/pupil ratios have changed, use of helmets is now required along with the use of FULL BODY height safety harnesses!

We have prepared a new Risk Management package to help you justify why you do not need to comply with these new regulations.

Victorian InterSchool Sport Climbing Championships

The 2009 comp was cancelled due to the economic circumstances at the time. It may be run again in 2010, subject to financial constraints.
